- Al Holley wrote and published in 2000 his Autobiography entitled "Don't Shoot from the Saddle,- Chronicles of a Frontier Surgeon".

Colleague Norman Hamilton commented: ?After graduation he practised in the Northwest Territories, where he quickly learned to mush a dog team for house calls. He was a keen outdoorsman, hunter and cowboy, and his pranks were legendary, including a staged train robbery. Prior to his death he completed his memoirs Don't Shoot from the Saddle ? Chronicles of a Frontier Surgeon.?
