    fought in the battle of Capelse Veer on the river Maas near Dussen (also known as Kappel se veer?) in Holland. Their objective was to paddle in boats up to a German occupied bridgehead [part of an offensive known as "Fall Braun"] and capture it. They had painted their boats white and were wearing white battle gear. At the last minute they were ordered to paint the boats black, thus getting their battle gear all stained with black as well. It turned out to be a full moon clear night so they could easily be seen. Walter had to fire on the occupiers wearing British uniforms, not knowing for sure they were enemy or not. They were Germans though in disguise.

    wounded by gunshot to the leg. Shipped to England for recovery. One of his men was cleaning his gun when it fired, hitting Sergeant Ward.

    remembers having to choose whom to live with when his parents divorced. He and Harry went with their father, while June and the others stayed with their mother.

    Graduated with squadron 91 as a Wireless Air Gunner. He trained on Harvards and Bolingbrokes (a twin engine bomber with a central turret on top). Frank recalled climbing into the turret, and then a plate was bolted on behind him, thus allowing the turret to rotate freely, and thus preventing his getting out in an emergency.

    purchased a 1/4 section of land Northeast of Airdrie, Alberta. Legal description of . Frank loved to stay out there (in a little trailer they placed on the land), and he ran a few cattle and had a large garden. When they first drilled their well it was free flowing artesian.

    1928 - February 14, 2015
    June was born in Three Hills, AB to Benjamin Ward and Evelyn Nesbitt. She was predeceased by her husband William Francis (Frank) Kinney and siblings Howard Ward, Walter Ward and Frank Ward. Survived by her brother Thomas Harold (Harry) Ward (Florence) and sisters Bonnie (William) Paling, Frances (Anthony) Prettegiani and Mary Stapleton. June was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She and Frank had five children: Laureen Kinney, Joanne Kinney, Timothy Kinney, Gregory Kinney (Tanis) and David Kinney (Angie Chambers). June's grandchildren include: Ward (Stacey, children Luceiia and Emmett), Kevin, Ryan (Holly and son Nathan), Clara, Jessica, Rebecca and Rachel. June graduated from Saint Joseph's Nursing College in Victoria and was the Director of Nursing at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford. June resided in Surrey with Joanne and enjoyed many activities with the Golden Retriever Club of BC and Great Dane Club of Western BC. She will be remembered with love for her warm heart, beautiful smile and dedication to family and friends. A Celebration of Life/ Open House will take place on Saturday, February 21 at the Kinney residence in Surrey between 6-9 p.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, please.
